         If you are seeking insights in Buddhism, there can be no better place than the birthplace of                       Buddha himself.

 

             WAT Buddha Expedition - Walk the Buddha Path and Connect with Yourself  - is a spiritual journey                             through India and Nepal, not just a walk through the sights of the country.

             ”Explore India & Nepal” invites you on a meaningful spiritual journey delving deep into the teachings of                     Buddha at several famous monasteries. Apart from this, Together and not just that with yoga                                       meditation. We will get an opportunity to witness the age-old religious harmony between Hindus and                       Buddhists in India and Nepal, which are the countries that have not been affected by any kind of adversity                 till now.

              

               Additionally, Buddhism, one of the major religions of the world, finds its roots in Northeastern India and                   spreads across Nepal. Being one of the oldest religions around the globe, Buddhism flourishes in India                     since 3rd century BC. Buddha left his palace at the age of 29 in search of enlightenment and wandered                     through the modern day states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in India and few places of Nepal.

During the WAT Buddha Expedition you will

Traveling Programs 

Our journey consists of two parts - the outer and the inner path. Outwardly, we will be hiking and camping in the mountains and sacred places of the Himalayas. During the journey, we will try to connect  the soul of everyone - internally, everyone will go on their own journey towards the present.

 

Travel Itinerary

 Day 01: Delhi - Dharamshala McLeod Ganj (Mini Tibet)

We meet at the New Delhi airport and head to the Main Bazaar, the main market, the tourist center of the city, where there are many guest houses and many shops selling fruits, clothes, jewelry, etc. This is a colorful place that captures the spirit of India. If you arrive early by plane, you can explore the nearby temple complexes and popular markets of Delhi. Delhi, the capital of India, is a mixture of cultures and a boiling cauldron of religions, arts and everyday life. 

Night bus: Delhi Main Bazaar - Dharamshala (486 km / 13 hours) overnight stay in the bus .

Day 02: Dharamshala McLeod Ganj (Mini Tibet)

Early morning we will reach Dharamshala Accommodation and check in at the guest house at the monastery, you will make acquaintance with - the country of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama - Little Lhasa. Relaxation. Overnight stay in the guest house .

Day 03 — 04 Dharamshala McLeod Ganj (Mini Tibet)

We will visit Tibetan monasteries - Namgyal Monastery and Tsugalgkhang, where the spiritual leader Dalai Lama lives. We will experience life in the monastery - communication with monks, meditation, silence, opportunity to assimilate, travel through valleys and mountain monasteries as we bid farewell to the Dalai Lama's home with the Shambhala, meditation, creative thoughts.

Day 04 : Night bus: Dharamshala -Delhi Main Bazaar (486 km / 13 hours) overnight stay in the bus .

 

Day 05: Delhi -Varanasi 

Arrive at Delhi's main bazaar for a rest at the hotel, breakfast, relaxation and preparing towards the journey to Buddha birthplace - Lumbini Nepal 

 Night train: Delhi — Varanasi ( 799 km / 11 hours) overnight stay in the train 

 

Day 06 : Varanasi 

On arrival in Varanasi, we move to the hotel/ashram guest house after having breakfast and relax and will come out for sightseeing in Varanasi. The city of Varanasi is one of the oldest cities in the world, dating back to 5000 years. Varanasi is famous for its spiritual and cultural history and Hindus believe that death and cremation in Varanasi leads to salvation. Varanasi has its own charm in the temples, river banks, small lanes, food, culture and the ancient look of the entire ambience. If we have some time left, we will take a visit to the buried city of Sarnath, which is a few km away from Varanasi. Sarnath is the place where Buddha gave his first sermon. We come back to Varanasi in the evening and stay there overnight.

Day 07: Varanasi to Sravasti by bus road (263 kms) 

Start our day with a boat ride in the two holy banks of the River Ganges – ghats Manikarnika and Harish chandra, where thousands of devotees flock for taking holy dips and also for cremation purposes. Hindus believe that those who breathe their last in Varanasi and are cremated in these banks, get released from the rebirth cycle.

On the same day, we will take a visit to Sarnath deer park where Buddha taught the Dharma for the first time leading to the Buddhist Sangha come into existence through the enlightenment of Kondanna. The other places to visit are Singhpur village – one km away from the site – which was the birthplace of Shreyansanath, the eleventh Tirthankara of Jainism and holds holy significance for being one of the four pilgrimages which every Buddhist must visit. The site is also famous as Buddha’s Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta – where he preached first after attaining enlightenment. The four noble truths and the teachings associated with it were all taught here.

Thereafter, we will visit the ruins, the stupa, the Buddhist temple and the museum .

Travel by road to Sravasti and stay overnight.

Day 08 Sravasti to Lumbini by road (309 kms)

After breakfast we will start our day by visiting Sravasti. Located on the banks of the river Rapti, Sravasti remained one of the largest cities during Buddha’s lifetime. It is said that Buddha was in Sravasti for 25 years of which 19 years were spent in Jetavana monastery and 6 years in the Pubbarama monastery. We will try  meditation and chanting at the Gandhakuti (Buddha’s hut) and the Anandabodhi tree 

India/Nepal border crossing – Lumbini. Wave goodbye to India and say namaste to Nepal as you cross the border at Gorakhpur. On entering the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, and one of his four holy places of pilgrimage overnight korian monestry Lumbini Nepal. 

Day 09- 10 Full Day excursion in Lumbini

We will start the day with early morning meditation and a breakfast, then start walking and tuktuk (rickshaw) tour of Lumbini Garden we’ll visit the beautiful Ashoka Pillars and hop on cycle rickshaws to the Maya Devi Temple, the actual site where Lord Buddha is thought to have been born. Then we return and spend the night at the hotel.

 

Day 11 Lumbini — Pokhara city 

We will start our journey early in the morning by bus towards Pokhara. Will have breakfast and lunch on the way. We will reach Pokhara in the evening time. The whole group gathers. We are resting after a long bus journey. Acquaintance with Pokhara - the city of love overnight in Lakeside Pokhara.

 

 

Day 12: Pokhara city

One day hike to World Peace Stupa, meditation, shopping and Preparing for trekking overnight stay in Pokhara.

TRACKING AND CAMPING POON –HILL

  • Maximum Altitude 3,210m at Poon Hill

  • Walking part of the route for 5-6 hours of trekking per day

  • Accommodation: Tent / Guest House.

 

Day 13: –Pokhra — Tikedunga/Uleri 

Moving to Nayapul, trekking with a panoramic view of the Manaslu mountains (from Sanskrit "Spirit, soul" 8156 m), Machapuchare ("Fish tail" 6998m high), Lamjung region, overnight stay in the village of Tikedunga.

 

Day 14: – Uleri - Gorepani 

Trek to Gorepani 2,874m -6 hours, traditional Ulleri village of ethnic guruns, view of the southern part of Annapurna, overnight stay in Ghorepani.

 

Day 15 - Poon Hill view Point

Morning 4 am climb to Poon Hill, on the mountain, overnight stay in Gorepani. 

Day 16 : Tadapani Village. 

Trek and overnight stay in Tadapani village (2700 m) - 5 hours.

Day 17: – Tolka - Gandruk. Village 

Trek to Tolka 1,630 m - 6 hours, through picturesque rhododendron forests and a waterfall, overnight stay in the village of Gandruk.

Day 18:– Kande - Pokhara 

Trek to Kande 1460m, view of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountain range, Deurali pass, descent to Potana through picturesque forests, transfer to Pokhara, views of Pokhara at night, cozy dinner with our group.

 

Day 19: – Pokhara 

Pokhara – free day at Pokhara, free to go for paragliding overlooking the Himalayas (optional), boating on Lake Pewa (optional).

Day 20: :– Pokhara – Kathmandu 

Transfer to Kathmandu (6 hours), walk through the city surrounded by snowy peaks of the Himalayas, an evening walk around the Thamel market, shopping and cozy diner at Kathmandu hostel. 

Day 21 : – Kathmandu

Acquaintance with Kathmandu - the city of temples: Kathmandu Durbar square, Pashupatinath temple of Hinduism, tourist, market, Buddhist stupa Bodnath, Swayambhunath monastery, at night, cozy dinner with our group at the end of our journey.

Day 22 : Departure

Transfer to airport and fly back home

Note: The trek to Gruella is optional, if anyone wants to join this trek we can continue our journey.

 

Our exclusive travel deals include yoga classes, family home visits, and local gastronomy. We can also join in agriculture and local arts if interested. We are not guides. We are guide travelers, inspired by the beauty of nature and people, experts in creative professions, and presenters. And we are happy to guide you along the mountain route and share the inspiration that the mountains give. We organize domestic issues on site. We will carry out 2-3 meditative and creative practices per day. But we will create a journey with you. And each of us depends on how it develops. So we are waiting for those who are open to the world and people who are ready to break away from city comfort and go to meet with other souls in the Himalaya, to meet with themselves.

In February 2019, the team and we went up to a height of 3200 meters. We passed the popular Himalayan track - Poon Hill. And although it was very cloudy at dawn at the highest point, during the descent we already saw the whole amazing panorama of mountain ranges! In the end, it was incredibly difficult to say goodbye to the mountains and return to the city.

Accommodation and Meals

According to the current situation of the world during the trip, we will live mainly on Camping in the mountains. There will stay in hotels in Kathmandu for 2 nights and in Pokhara for 2 nights with breakfast included. For the remaining 6 nights, we will stay in guest houses and campgrounds near the villages along the route. Wherever there is a camping, there will also be an opportunity to stay in a guest house in more comfortable conditions. Meals will be provided at the checked places along the route. And also the guide Raul will be happy to prepare traditional local dishes for us and tell us about the properties of oriental spices.

 IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  1. If this is your first time visiting such high altitude places, consult a doctor first to check for any medical condition which may prove problematic. Usually, it is not an issue if you are generally healthy but better to be safe than sorry as people with some medical conditions like BP, respiratory and cardiac issues may face some problems.

  2. Travel programs in the mountains not necessarily would always run exactly as scheduled. Allow for unplanned long days or early camps due to weather disruptions or similar causes.

  3. There are places with limited communication possibilities and/or medical facilities nearby on this route.

  4. Participants should be prepared for cold conditions with strong winds and high wind chill factor.

  5. Any additional expenses which might occur due to delays, weather disruptions, medical evacuation, etc. would need to be borne by the participants. All overstay due to weather disruption, roadblocks, and similar which are not under our control would be charged as per tour cost for planned days.

  6. All participants are recommended to have travel insurance that covers trekking and wilderness travel.
